Reb Gershom's Breslov Page
This page links all the Breslov-related stories, essays, and other
material on my website, plus a few other good Breslov links. If you
need background on Hasidism in general, go to to the Hasidism FAQ.
Also, be sure to check out the Breslov section of
The Gershom Book Shop for more Breslov materials that you can
order through Amazon.com.
For some nice Breslov music CDs, visit the site of
Simply Sfat,
a Breslov folk group in Israel which has produced two excellent CDs
so far. Their sound is what I call "happy Hasidic", i.e.,
lighter and more cheerful that, say, the military marches of Lubovitch.
Each CD has an original song in English as well as the more traditional
Hebrew. Their site gives ordering info.
This page has a beautiful prayer attributed to Rebbe Nachman, plus
soome notes on the source(s).
Rebbe Nachman Stories
These are my own re-tellings of some classical Breslov stories, with
thoughts and commentary on their possible meanings...
Story of a prince who went insane and thought he was a rooster --
and how the wise sage was able to heal him.
A son leaves his father's house and learns the lamp-making trade.
When he returns, he creates an exceediingly ugly lamp -- just
to prove a point, of course!
Two beggars, a Jew and a gentile, are discussing where to get the best
handouts. The gentile decides to pass for a Jew and go to a Passover
seder, but he doesn't know the ritual and confusion results...
The Uman Pilgrimage
The story of my pilgrimage to the gravesite of Rebbe Nachman in
Uman, Ukraine for Rosh Hashanah 5758 (1997). filled with obstacles,
surprises, and miracles...
This is an open letter that I sent out to people connected with
the annual Breslov pilgrimage. The pilgrimage was wonderful,
except for one blemish -- the level of litter we created. This
essay explores some of the Torah issues about ecology, and makes
practical suggestions for keeping our Uman encampment a bit
cleaner next time...
