Questions and Answers

Q: Is line breeding the same as In Bred?

We are considered a Line Breeder of Hermes Lines but do not In Breed. Although you will find different opinions from different breeders we prefer to make sure our Genetic Structure is sound. With In Breeding, you may have absolutely awesome results but you can have some bad. Doubling up too closely as done with In Breeding can result in the carry thru of Genetic Problems that would otherwise remained a remissive genetic quality.

Definitions

INBREEDING - the breeding of two closely related dogs. Father to Daughter, Mother to Son, Half Brother to Half Sister, and Full Brother to Full Sister. Are examples of INBREEDING. Anything further away is NOT inbreeding.

LINE BREEDING
Line breeding is one of the best tools to use in breeding when trying to produce consist ant results in the look of an animal (not just dogs).

Line breeding is a way to double up on a line of dogs thus increasing your ability to become consistent in producing a certain type. Many breeders use this method for continuing an existing line and/or producing their own lines.

Examples of line breeding are: Grandfather to Granddaughter, Grandmother to Grandson (these breeding's are usually considered the best in line breeding), Aunt to Nephew, Uncle to Niece, Cousin to Cousin, and so on.

Once again these types of breeding's are NOT inbreeding and has been used by horse breeders, cattle breeders, dog breeders, etc.
