Speaking of Jews is a full-color, interactive electronic book by internationally-known author and Jewish storyteller, Rabbi Yonassan Gershom. (Although it is written in DOS, it will run in all versions of Windows. Sorry, no Mac version.)
Speaking of Jews is designed to help non-Jews avoid those embarrassing inter-cultural mistakes when talking or writing about Jews and Judaism. It is written in plain language for gentiles who have had limited exposure to Jews and Judaism, and/or who may be making major bloopers in the ways that they speak, write about, and interract with Jews.
In some cases, the "common" terms about Jews that are used on the streets may be outdated or even offensive. Without really meaning to, you can end up hurting somebody's feelings and then you are left wondering, "Was it something I said?"
That's why you need Speaking of Jews. It uses a fun Windows-like graphical format in DOS, created with Neosoft's NEOBOOK software, with lots of buttons, graphics, pop-up features and a bit of humor to guide you through the maze of politically-correct issues about Jews. You will learn, among other things, that the Pharisees were not hypocrites, the God of the Jews is not vengeful, and the Jewish people are not a race.
You will also find out about some basic Jewish beliefs and teachings, the different denominations of Jews, and how to tell the difference between real Jewish humor and an antisemitic joke. When you have finished this program, you will know which "Jewish" words to use, and which ones to avoid!
Students and teachers alike say that Speaking of Jews is a useful vocabulary tool for expanding their multi-cultural awareness. Clergy find it helpful in promoting better understanding between Christians and Jews.
And Jews themselves enjoy it, too!
Each lesson is arranged on a single, self-contained page. You can do them in any order, at your own pace. On each page, the main article is in large print, directly under the heading. This gives you the basic lesson. The sidebars and buttons provide further information, stories, graphics, etc. if you want to go into more depth about a topic.
Plus, the interractive software makes it easy and fun!
This is not a demo -- it is the fully-activated program,
with all the features, which the author has released as shareware.
And you can download it now for free!
Use it as long as you like - there are no self-destruct codes or usage
limitations. But please keep in mind that it took Rabbi Gershom
many hours to write this, so, if you find it useful, please make a
donation of $5 or more through the Amazon Honor System paybox here.
This is fast, easy, and secure, because it uses Amazon's
tried-and-true system. Why not do it now? (If for some reason the
PayBox did not load, you can click here to
go directly to the donations page.)
System Requirements: DOS 5, 386 system, VGA or better. This program will also run under all versions of Windows in a full-sized window from the File Manager, or create a shortcut on your desktop.
Once again: You will need a ZIP decompression utility to unpack it. If you do not have one, go to the PKWARE download page and choose the shareware version that is best for your system.
